Dr. Barnes’ research focuses on retinal neurobiology. In his research, Dr. Barnes uses state-of-the-art electrophysiological, ion imaging, immunohistochemical and molecular biological tools. His primary focus is on ion channels in retinal neurons and glia - the sites where pathological conditions can take their toll and sites that pharmacological agents can exploit in providing effective therapeutic interventions. Through his work at the Brain Repair Centre, Dr. Barnes is using his research to bring clinically relevant findings from the laboratory to the patients who need it.
