Dr. Dale Corbett , Canada Research Chair in Stroke and Neuroplasticity at Memorial University, is interested in developing new treatments to promote recovery of function following stroke. His approach is to identify and optimally enhance neuroplasticity/re-organizational processes (e.g. growth promoting factors) that are transiently activated by brain injury to achieve greater recovery of function. His research program incorporates molecular and behavioural approaches ranging from stem cell therapy, exercise and rehabilitation of motor and cognitive function in animal stroke models and stroke patients. The primary goal of Dr. Corbett's research is to develop new interventions that can be translated into more effective protocols for patient rehabilitation.
