Dr. Delva received his medical degree and did his residency in psychiatry at Queen’s University, Kingston, Ontario, where his training in research was supervised by the late Dr. Felix Letemendia. His clinical work is focused on the care of patients with mood disorders or schizophrenia. As a researcher, he has focused on biological psychiatry; his interests include psychopharmacology, clinical trials, electroconvulsive therapy (ECT), and polydipsia/water intoxication. Dr. Delva received the Investigator’s Award from the Association for Convulsive Therapy and is currently the Chair of the Canadian ECT Survey, which is in the process of evaluating where and how ECT is delivered, the number and characteristics of the patients receiving ECT, and what barriers may exist to its availability. Dr. Delva welcomes collaboration with others on novel approaches to the treatment of severe mood disorders and other psychiatric conditions.
