Dr. Bernhard Pohlmann-Eden is a passionate clinical neurologist, neurophysiologist and researcher with a keen interest in epilepsy and other disturbances of consciousness. He is striving to understand how a disease such as epilepsy becomes chronic and difficult to treat with special interest in the role of aging. His focus is on the evolution of this long-lasting disorder from the “first seizure”.
His comprehensive approach incorporates findings from functional (EEG) and structural (MRI) studies, psychiatric co-morbidities, cognitive assessment, social markers, and basic science such as pharmacokinetics and genetics. His research interests within the field of epilepsy also include the transition from adolescence to adult, epilepsy in the elderly with focus on ischemia-associated seizures, mechanisms of pharmacoresistance, and refractory status epilepticus. Dr. Pohlmann-Eden's work is critically connected to numerous European, North American and Australian teaching hospitals.
