Dr. Victor Rafuse
http://www.anatomy.dal.ca/rafuse/

In his studies on neural development, Dr. Rafuse is seeking to adapt what we know about the developing nervous system to help treat neurodegenerative diseases and conditions such as spinal cord injury, ALS, and Parkinson’s disease. Using molecular biology, electrophysiology and standard anatomical immunohistochemistry (as well as in vitro and in vivo techniques), Dr, Rafuse is working towards understanding how motor axons grow and form stable synapses during development and following nerve injury. As the Brain Repair Centre’s only developmental neurobiologist, Dr. Rafuse’s expertise and unique perspective are instrumental in bringing the Brain Repair Centre’s research from the laboratory to the bedside of patients.
