Researchers

Dr. Ying Zhang
ying.zhang@dal.ca

The fundamental goal of Dr. Zhang’s laboratory research is to understand the organization of neural circuits that control locomotion and identify mechanisms underlying locomotor behaviors. The current focus in her lab is to comprehend the functional roles that different subpopulations of spinal interneurons play in the locomotor circuits.  To achieve her goals, she and her colleagues use various genetically modified mice and combine the techniques of electrophysiology, molecular biology and
immunohistochemistry. They will also extend their research to the study of spinal cord injuries and spinal diseases, such as ALS, with the hope of helping to find new therapies and treatments for these conditions.
