In addition to core research facilities in the Life Sciences Research Institute (LSRI), Brain Repair Centre-affiliated researchers have access to a number of other important multi-user and core facilities at Dalhousie Medical School and the IWK Health Centre. These include:

Biomedical MRI Research Lab: The Biomedical MRI Research Lab provides sophisticated multi-user brain-imaging capabilities for pre-clinical studies. The lab is home to MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) and PET (positron emission tomography) scanners that enable researchers to understand the genesis and progression of neurological disease, to identify potential targets for diagnostic and therapeutic agents, and to test the effectiveness of these agents in preclinical models of disease. It is located at the IWK Health Centre.

Magnetoencephalography (MEG) Lab: The first of its kind in Canada, the MEG Lab allows researchers to non-invasively measure magnetic fields in and around the brains of human subjects of any age. This enables researchers to learn about both normal and abnormal brain function, to trace brain regions responsible for certain kinds of learning and memory formation, and to locate the source of epileptic, seizures, among many other important capabilities. The MEG lab is located adjacent to the Biomedical MRI Research Lab at the IWK Health Centre.

Maritime Brain Tissue Bank: The Maritime Brain Tissue Bank collects and archives brain tissues that are donated to the tissue bank by families of deceased individuals. These include normal brains for experimental control and comparison, as well as tissues from people with a variety of neurodegenerative conditions, including Alzheimer, Parkinson and Huntington diseases and various forms of dementia. Part of the CORES program, it is located in the Sir Charles Tupper Medical Building at Dalhousie Medical School.
